The menstrual hygiene (MHDay) event was organized by EBONA Youth Network Nigeria in collaboration with LiFY and CADEF. The project was designed to enlighten the participants on the importance of menstrual care, and raise awareness about the issues faced by those who don't have access to sanitary products, safe hygienic spaces and the right to manage menstruation without shame or stigma from the men/boys.
Program Objectives
The objectives of the exercise include:
- To enlighten the girls to understand their cycles and behavior during their menstruation.
- To sensitize the student on what they need to effectively manage their periods in public
- To increase access to and use of high quality sanitary napkins and to ensure safe disposal of Sanitary Napkins in an environmental friendly manner.
- Aims to break the silence, raise awareness, and change negative social norms and stigma surrounding menstrual health and hygiene.
Causes Content
- The girls will know the symptoms and changes they can get monthly before or during menstruation.
- The girl child will know the specific days their menstrual cycle will last and hours they are to wear a particular sanitary pad to avoid infections from bacterial, and also how to dispose the used pads.
- The girls will have a personal calendar to keep check of any changes on their body, and which day in a month to expect their periods.
- Enlightening the boys to assist the girls during their period and also encourage them rather than making gest and shaming the girls.
- The student will be well informed that menstruation is not a sickness rather it’s a biological and natural phenomena.
